CSASWC 2015
Last month Clinical Symposium on Advances in Skin and Wound Care (CSASWC) was an important gathering of clinicians including nurses, physicians, physical therapists, wound care specialists, educators, podiatrists, administrators and others who strive to stay awake so far with the newest evidence and products. With networking between sessions, learning from expert presenters and connecting with exhibitors, this was an event to not be missed.
The symposium celebrated its thirtieth anniversary and took place on the Hyatt Regency New Orleans hotel. The backdrop for this event was spectacular – an important city, incredible sports fans (each Louisiana State University and the Saints were playing that weekend), and countless food and entertainment options made attending this conference a lot fun! Some photos from the event might be seen on our website CSASWC 2015 album on Facebook.AND
Let me share a couple of clinical gems I learned on the conference:
- “Usually, pressure ulcers in newborns and children are caused by the action of medical devices.”
- “All antibiotics are antimicrobials, but not all antimicrobials are antibiotics. Antibiotics can inhibit or kill the body; antimicrobials inhibit bacterial growth but cause little or no harm to the host.”
- “Deep tissue injuries are common within the population of individuals staying in intensive care units. The most typical sites are the sacrum and heels
- “Even with the transition to ICD-10, documentation is the key to success!”
