Leadership
All nurses are leaders
We are all leaders, regardless of where we work, the patient population we look after, or our role in nursing. As nurses, we lead on daily basis – a few of us on the bedside or within the clinic, a few of us within the classroom, a few of us in patients’ homes, a few of us within the conference room – there are too many places to list! We hope you already realize that you simply are a pacesetter on daily basis, but if you happen to need a bit of convincing, we’ll explain it to you over the course of this yr.
So how do you lead? Ask yourself the next questions…
Think concerning the things your co-workers often come to you with. Perhaps it is a query about a selected diagnosis or patient population. You stands out as the one that needs an IV drip placed when a patient is having difficulty with treatment.
Do you teach students? Have you ever assigned activities to nurses who’re recent or recent to the unit? Do you teach colleagues in other fields concerning the unit you’re employed in? What about patient education? (We all do it!)
Do you speak up on your patients and their families? How about yourself? Your friends? Nursing occupation?
Are you taking over the role of charge nurse? Are you a member of the team? Are you the nurse others strive to be? Do you model healthy behaviors amongst patients and the general public?
Are you knowledgeable about global issues affecting nursing and healthcare? Are you a committee member at your institution? Are you a member of knowledgeable nursing organization? Are you a member of local, state or national boards?
We know that we enjoy the general public’s trust – or fairly We have been recognized as probably the most trusted of all professions for the last 15 years in a row! How often do relations and friends come to you with health-related questions or advice? The title of “nurse” signifies leadership towards those around us.
If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you’re a pacesetter!
