Global Fund Board extends CEO term

– The Board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) has approved an extension of the term of Executive Director Peter Sands until the tip of 2026. This extension will ensure continuity of leadership in the course of the Eighth Replenishment and permit for a sturdy selection process for the subsequent Executive Director. The number of the subsequent leader is predicted in mid-2026, along with his term expected to start later that yr.
The Global Fund’s Executive Director serves a four-year term, renewable once. Mr. Sands’ first term began in March 2018 and was subsequently renewed, and his current term was originally scheduled to finish in March 2026. Over the years, the Board has repeatedly recognized Mr. Sands’ service and leadership during times of serious change and challenge in global health.
The Global Fund Executive Director is chargeable for the general leadership and management of the Global Fund’s operational and administrative functions. Working under the leadership of the organization’s Board of Directors, the Executive Director defines the strategic vision of the partnership and is accountable for its implementation and results.
