Durrant, M., Oliver, C., Gottlieb, L., Frechette, J., Lavoie-Tremblay, M., & Cyr, G. (2024). The facilitated engagement approach: A novel approach to interviewing mentors. Nurse education today106152.
Mentoring has been recognized as a method for developing leadership competencies in clinical leaders and has been integrated into leadership programs.
“A mentor facilitates the event of a growth mindset by encouraging the mentee to view situations as challenges, helping them query assumptions and seek learning opportunities that deepen knowledge, cultivate skills, and develop strengths.”
Providing a framework for conversations between mentors and mentees, preparing them for leadership roles in nursing.
- Mentors cultivate a growth mindset by encouraging others to learn, develop, and grow.
- There’s little research on mentors’ conversational patterns.
- The conversation structure of our mentor, FEA, relies on a spiral approach, elements of reflection and sharing stories. They’ve been found to be useful in facilitating a deep understanding of SBNH leadership and supporting leadership skills.
