The strategy of choosing the Global Fund’s Executive Director is on schedule – updates
The strategy of choosing the Global Fund’s Executive Director is proceeding as scheduled
– The strategy of choosing the subsequent Executive Director of the Global Fund continues in accordance with the schedule approved by the Board.
Following the launch of the recruitment process in February 2026, the Executive Nominating Committee (EDNC), supported by executive search firm Russell Reynolds Associates, accomplished a world outreach process to discover a powerful, diverse and competitive pool of candidates reflecting the competencies outlined within the document Responsibilities of the Executive Director. The selection process currently takes the shape of successive rounds of interviews, assessments and due diligence. After each stage, the sphere of candidates will narrow, with the EDNC expected to recommend a final shortlist of 4 to 5 candidates to the Board in late September.
Once the ultimate shortlist is submitted, leadership of the method will transfer from EDNC to the present Board leadership. Shortlisted candidates will attend Board meetings in early October, followed by several weeks of meetings with the Board’s constituencies before the Board makes its final selection.
Throughout the method, the Global Fund stays committed to a merit-based, transparent and well-managed selection process that protects the confidentiality of candidates while enabling the Board to discover the strongest possible leader for the organization.
The names and biographies of the ultimate shortlisted candidates might be published on the Global Fund website once submitted to the Board. Until this stage, candidate information and committee deliberations will remain confidential to guard the integrity of the method, ensure fairness to all candidates, and support EDNC’s open deliberations. With the exception of the ultimate nominees, all other nominees’ names remain confidential indefinitely.
The Board is predicted to appoint the subsequent Executive Director on the 56th Board Meeting, which might be held in Geneva on October 28-30, 2026. The latest Executive Director is predicted to take office in the primary quarter of 2027.
