Caroline Pace brightens the patient’s birthday with a sympathetic holiday

Imagine you spend your birthday in a hospital, away out of your family members, with no family or friends who can have fun at your side. For one patient in Atrium Health Floyd Medical CenterThis was the fact – the registered nurse Caroline Pace entered and transformed a daily day into something unforgettable.
Pace’s extraordinary compassion not only brightened the patient’s birthday; He was an example of the facility of nursing for treatment outside the bed.
A vacation that went beyond Dut
When the pace discovered that her patient was spending her birthday alone, she refused that the milestone passed unnoticed. She organized a ceremony with a cake and a thoughtful gift, all of which were delivered from her time and resources.
“She provided a cake and a thoughtful gift, raising the patient’s spirits and making her feel really valued,” said Sheila Bennett, a senior vp and head of patients at Atrium Health Floyd. “Her generosity, including the dedication of her own time and resources outside of work, reflects the highest standards of care and values that the Atrium stands.”
Recognition of an actual healer
In the case of this selfless act, Pace was honored with the Daisy award, the popularity of the nurses reserved for nurses who show exceptional compassion and clinical skills. The Daisy Foundation was remembered by Patrick Barnes, who died of autoimmune disease to honor nurses who made a difference during his care.
As a part of the tradition, Bennett presented the pace with a daisy and hand -carved sculpture of the “touch of healer” from Zimbabwe. She and her teammates also enjoyed Cinnamon Buns, the Daisy Customing award symbolizing one among the few dishes that Barnes can enjoy during his hospitalization.
Why did she do it
In case of pace, the ceremony never concerned recognition. It was about honoring what he considers as the center of nursing: meeting people in essentially the most sensitive moments with kindness and humanity.
“We have a chance to help people in the most sensitive times, and it was satisfying to know that I can change something,” said Pace.
A graduate of Rockmart High School, Pace embodies the values that nursing professionals try to take care of all over the place: empathy, generosity and commitment to creating patients feel and valued.
Honoring on a regular basis heroes
Pace actions remind us that the smallest gestures can have the best impact on patient care. Regardless of whether, due to specialist clinical knowledge or sincere compassion, nurse akin to Caroline Pace embodies what it means to be a healer.
