A process indicating and causing safety from Japan – Nursing Education Network

Shisa Kanko, also often called “an indication and calling”, is a Japanese safety technique. It includes a sign of an object or indicator. Then he orally calls his status to substantiate or confirm his condition. This method is widely utilized in the Japanese railway system and was adopted by other industries to extend safety and accuracy.
“Indication and call” includes the physical indication of the item or motion, similar to drug administration, equipment control or patient identification. For example, this will include a sign of the drug label. At the identical time, the intended motion is verbalized, similar to giving the name of the drug and dose. This double motion approach engages many senses-visual, auditory and kinesthetic-to strengthen attention and accuracy.
“Indication and calling” may help healthcare employees in concentration, reducing memory and stopping errors, especially in high stress environments, similar to emergency departments and intensive care units
