Lori A. Colineri is the quintessential nurse leader who skillfully combines art and science to advance nursing practice in local, regional, national and international forums. Lori began her profession as a clinical nurse in intensive care units in 1985. Her inclination for leadership was quickly noticed by peers, cross-functional colleagues and leaders. This distinction served because the catalyst that enabled Lori to start her impressive and visionary leadership journey.

  • Under Lori’s leadership, RWJBH has developed a up to date nursing practice model that helps nurses navigate the complex health care system.
  • Lori’s energetic leadership within the rigorous Magnet® submission and site investigation process resulted in a fifth Magnet designation for RWJUH – one in all seven organizations on the planet to receive Magnet designation five times in a row – and a second Magnet designation for RWJS.
  • Lori supported the clinical nurse’s desire to begin a support group for transgender families.
  • Lori’s focus and collaborative leadership style have resulted in significant improvements in safety and quality outcomes. For example, inpatient falls have decreased by 36%, central line-related bloodstream infections have decreased by 58%, and catheter-related urinary tract infections have decreased by 76% since Lori took up her position at RWJUH.
  • Lori understands the critical priority of skilled development and its complexities. She helped implement the Center for Professional Development, Innovation and Research, which is now embedded in each of the 11 hospitals at RWJBH.
  • Lori was instrumental in securing a $5 million gift from the Betty Wold Johnson Foundation to advance high-quality simulation and education for nurses throughout the health care system.
