Saudi Arabia commits $39 million to eighth replenishment of the Global Fund, strengthening its leadership in global health

– The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), has committed USD 39 million to the eighth replenishment of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund), reaffirming its long-standing commitment to global health and resilient health systems.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by HE Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, Director General of the Saudi Fund for Development, and Peter Sands, Executive Director of the Global Fund. The signing ceremony was attended by Ambassador HE Abdulmohsen Majed Bin Khothaila, Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Office in Geneva, in addition to senior representatives of each the Saudi Development Fund and the Global Fund, highlighting the continued cooperation between the 2 institutions and the Kingdom’s commitment to improving global health.

The multi-year contribution, spanning 2026-2028, will support life-saving programs that prevent, treat and take care of people affected by HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, while strengthening health systems and community-based services in over 100 countries. With this commitment, Saudi Arabia’s total contributions to the Global Fund now exceed $200 million.

Saudi Arabia, a partner of the Global Fund since its inception in 2002, has played a consistent and strategic role in supporting global efforts to finish infectious diseases and improve health security.

The eighth Global Fund Summit was held in Johannesburg, South Africa in November. The summit was co-hosted by the governments of South Africa and the United Kingdom on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit. The contribution of partners like Saudi Arabia is crucial to take care of momentum, translate commitments into impact and make sure that advantages are inclusive, sustainable and locally driven.
