Miami Valley Hospital staff uniforms color coded
Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, is implementing a brand new hospital-wide dress code. All staff members working in direct patient care and clinical support roles will wear color-coded uniforms.
The decision to update the hospital’s dress code policy got here after greater than 200 employees spent a yr researching dress code standards and reviewing studies conducted at other medical centers which have adopted similar policies. Two MVH nursing units piloted color-coded uniforms. Evidence from the study showed that having a consistent dress code improved patient perceptions of care and resulted in greater patient and nurse satisfaction.
“Our goal in adopting this new policy is to create an environment of care and clinical excellence,” says Gary Blake, vp of operations. “The new standard will make it easier for patients to recognize nurses and other caregivers and present a professional image that will give patients peace of mind about the services they receive at Miami Valley Hospital.”
Miami Valley has chosen specific peel colours to distinguish one patient care specialty from one other. The Miami Valley uniform colours are as follows:
• RNs will wear navy blue or white uniforms.
• Patient care technicians, health care coordinators and staff secretaries will wear sandstone.
• Licensed technologists, similar to those working in medical imaging, will carry wine.
• Technicians, similar to those working on ECG and endoscopy, will wear turquoise.
• Registered respiratory therapists and central distribution staff wear hunting green uniforms.
• Environmental protection staff are wearing black.
• Staff members performing other patient-related functions must wear white coats or lab coats over business attire.
The latest skilled image policy applies to roughly 3,600 people, or 60% of the hospital staff.
