Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center awarded a subsidy for the Nursing Innovation Fund

The Memorial Hermann-TMC project, developed in cooperation with Memorial Hermann Foundation and Memorial Hermann Institute for Nursing Excellence, might be piloting staff based on evidence of tools to enhance two-way communication and access to information between nurses, managers and leadership.

The initiative might be launched in three nursing units, and on 4 key components:

  • Monthly template newsletter
  • Quarterly video series run by the Nursing Director
  • Improved annual training
  • Dedicated nursing channel on the inner MHONE platform

“Effective communication between staff at the bed and our nursing leadership at all levels is necessary to build a high reliability environment,” said Rose Richmond, MSN, MBA, MBA, RN, CCRN-K, CLSSGB. “This gift allows us to engage our staff at the bed, who are the key players of effective communication, and use approaches based on evidence that will strengthen others and lead to new platforms to improve patient safety and staff satisfaction that can be adapted to other units.”

Domestic support for healthy work environments

Nursing leaders emphasize that healthy work environments are usually not only helpful for workers – additionally they improve patients’ results and family experiences.

“Nurses play a key role in the protection of the health of our nation, but they need a healthy work environment to effectively provide care,” said Alan Weil, senior vp of public policy and director of AARP Public Policy Institute. “Aarp proudly provides continuous support to ensure a strong nursing work force in all care conditions in which they practice nurses.”

“Nurses represent the largest segment of healthcare labor, which positions them as necessary catalysts to solve health care problems while conducting innovation and transformation in the field,” said Vicki Good DNPRN, CENP, CPPS, AACN Chief Clinical Officer. “Creating supporting, healthy work environments is not beneficial for nurses; it creates a wave effect that can improve patients’ results and strengthen family experiences.”

National effort

In addition to Memorial Hermann-TMC, financed projects start in Arkansas, California, Colorado, Colombia’s district, and FloridaMaryland, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
