Global Fund Expands Financial Data Availability, Increasing Transparency and Accountability
July 16, 2024
— To increase transparency of its investments and programs, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) is launching a new edition and expansion of its Data Explorer platform. The improvements will include additional financial details about Global Fund’s investments and might be more intuitive to navigate. The update, released today, provides additional transparency into how much Global Fund’s funds are paying out, where they’re invested and the way effectively they’re getting used.
“For us, transparency is more than just best practice; it’s one of our founding principles,” said Peter Sands, Global Fund’s executive director. “Our donors, partners, and the communities we serve trust us. In return, our job is to provide them with the tools they need to hold us accountable, so everyone can tell themselves they’re getting the best value from investing in the Global Fund.”
Data Explorer visualizes where Global Fund investments come from, where they’re made, and what impact they’re having by providing commitment and contribution data, financial data on grants, and performance data at the worldwide, regional, and country levels.
“This new information will provide stakeholders with real-time visibility into our financial performance,” said Adda Faye, Global Fund’s Chief Financial Officer. “Previously, this level of detail was not publicly available. Now, it is available at the disease intervention level, so key stakeholders in the Global Fund partnership can leverage financial insights to dynamically maximize the impact of our investments.”
Also today Publish What You Fund’s Aid Transparency Index 2024 – currently the one independent measure of aid transparency – released its latest rankings of leading development organizations. The Global Fund got here in at the highest of the “Good” category.
“We are very pleased to have seen an increase of more than 10 points in the Aid Transparency Index this year since the last assessment in 2022,” said Francoise Vanni, Director of External Relations and Communications on the Global Fund. “This reflects our commitment to improving transparency and recognizes our efforts to make more of our information accessible and user-friendly.”
Since the last index, the Global Fund has focused on implementing mechanisms that make it easier to search out and navigate detailed investment performance documents and data. The Global Fund looks forward to the subsequent Aid Transparency Index, when the improved Data Explorer and the addition of recent financial data might be included within the performance overview.
