Global Fund begins the technique of electing a brand new board chair and vice-chair

December 12, 2025

– The Board of Directors of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) has formally initiated the technique of electing the subsequent Chair and Vice-Chair for a 3-year term from 2026 to 2029. Lady Roslyn Morauta is currently the Chairperson and Adv. Bience Gawanas.

The Chair of the Board and the Vice-Chair function key ambassadors and advocates for the Global Fund’s work and lead the Board of Directors, which determines the Global Fund’s strategy and policy.

This transition comes at a vital time for global health and development. Challenges to global trends – increasing pressures on official development assistance (ODA), changing geopolitical priorities, and tightening fiscal space amongst many donors and countries implementing the Global Fund – are changing the environment during which health programs operate.

The Global Fund Partnership works to sustain progress and speed up the impact of its investments as we enter a brand new era – defined by transformation, innovation, shared responsibility and the trail to self-reliance.

Under the Board’s leadership and oversight, the Global Fund partnership will work smarter – leveraging cutting-edge tools, increasing efficiency and simplifying processes – while supporting governments, communities and partners to construct a world health ecosystem that’s more collaborative and cohesive and higher conscious of national priorities resembling advancing the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, strengthening health systems and constructing a healthier, safer and more equitable world.

The next chairman and vice-chairman of the Board will likely be internationally recognized leaders with a proven track record of feat that can enable them to guide strategic considerations and represent the partnership to external stakeholders. Together they are going to bring:

  • Extensive experience working on multi-stakeholder governance bodies and interacting with high-level officials.
  • Strong understanding of the worldwide health architecture and Global Fund management processes.
  • Leadership experience from a wide range of sectors and contexts.

The Global Fund Board consists of 20 voting members, and donors and implementers are equally represented. Voting members also include representatives from non-governmental organizations, the private sector, private foundations and communities affected by HIV, tuberculosis and malaria. The Board consists of eight non-voting members, including the Chair and Vice-Chair, in addition to representatives of key partner organizations and the Additional Public Donor District.

Global Fund engaged Russell Reynolds Associates to support the search and selection process.
