Global Fund begins the strategy of choosing a brand new Executive Director

– The Board of Directors of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) has formally initiated the strategy of electing the following Executive Director for a four-year term starting in 2027.

The Executive Director is answerable for the general leadership, management and performance of the Global Fund Secretariat, including its operational and administrative functions. Reporting on to the Global Fund Board, the Executive Director sets the strategic vision of the organization, leads its implementation and is answerable for the outcomes achieved throughout the partnership.

The principal responsibility of the Executive Director is to uphold, embody and represent the mission of the Global Fund in all internal and external endeavors. Through his leadership, the Executive Director sets the tone for the Global Fund – fostering a culture of high ethical standards, integrity, transparency, justice, partnership and mutual accountability.

The next Executive Director will likely be appointed by the Board in late 2026, in keeping with the organization’s governance framework. Global Fund engaged Russell Reynolds Associates to support the search and selection process.

This leadership transition comes at a pivotal time for global health and development. Challenged global trends – including increasing pressure on official development assistance, shifting geopolitical priorities, and tightening fiscal space in lots of donor and implementing countries – are changing the environment during which health programs operate and increasing the necessity for institutions to stay agile, effective and fit for purpose.
