Global Fund and Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development sign multi-year financial contribution agreement

October 16, 2024

– The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has confirmed that it is going to provide USD 8 million for the seventh replenishment of the Global Fund, which covers the 2024-2026 grant cycle. KFAED Acting Director General Waleed Sh. Al-Bahar and Global Fund Executive Director Peter Sands signed a multi-year contribution agreement this week.

Kuwait was the primary Middle Eastern country to hitch the Global Fund Partnership in 2003. Its unwavering support over the past twenty years has played a key role in helping the Global Fund Partnership save over 65 million lives, reducing the combined death rate from HIV, TB and malaria by over 61% and supporting over 100 countries in strengthening their health systems. The latest agreement brings Kuwait’s total support to the Global Fund to USD 26 million.

Accepting the contribution, Sands said: “At the Global Fund, we are proud of our partnership with Kuwait and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. Kuwait has long been a pioneer in international development, including global health, and I greatly appreciate Kuwait’s continued commitment to our mission to end three diseases and build a healthier and more equitable world for all.”
