Effective mentoring
I just finished reading the September issue. In this text, writer Pamela Woodfine MSN, RN highlights the importance of mentoring and a brand new nurse gaining her first experiences within the “real world” of positive nurses. It also highlights the importance of recruitment and retention for the longer term of our career. Listed below are the phases of the mentoring process as described in this text. Regardless of where you’re in your nursing profession, whether you’re a brand new nurse, recent or experienced educator, I believe you will see them interesting and helpful in planning and implementing a successful transition to nursing.
- Phase 1: introduction, mutual discussion of non-public and skilled goals
- Phase 2: set goals and tasks together, set time frames
- Phase 3: establish guidelines for implementing the motion plan and the working relationship (for instance, open communication, accessibility and constructive criticism)
- Phase 4: reflection and feedback (a very powerful phase; promotes critical considering and increases clinical skills)
