What does it mean to be a frontrunner? In the past, I believed of a nurse leader as any nurse in a leadership position or advanced practice nurse. After reading it, my standpoint modified. Let me share the next words from the authors to show you how to understand why all of us can and must be nurse leaders:

The authors’ work focused on helping individuals find their “inner leader” and develop behaviors that allow them to share their leadership with others. To this end, they identified five “skill concepts”, i.e. skills derived from the concept of leadership:

  1. – have knowledge and be confident in it
  2. – know where you are going
  3. – give attention to your goals and learn how to achieve them; avoid taking things personally (you really want to read this a part of the article in its entirety!)
  4. – recognize resistance as an indication that you simply are making an impact
  5. – remember that you would be able to all the time gain something positive, even if you face challenges

I hope you discover this text as inspiring as I do. You can read it without cost online until July 1, 2011, similar to our current featured magazine. Tell me what you think that!
