Q: When was the Nurse Reimbursement Commission established and why?

It was established in April 2023 after years of talks. We began to comprehend that nurses were included in room rates as early because the Thirties with the event of Social Security, when men ran hospitals. Previously, nurses could bill for his or her services.

During the ladies’s rights movement, nursing became the best economic tool in world history to supply women with financial independence. However, men were threatened by women’s financial independence in nursing and started in search of a model that might include reimbursement for care costs but NO give them a financial identity across the value they bring about to healthcare.

Hotel maids were included within the room rate. Nurses also incorporated nursing into room rates and social security models, concealing the true value of nursing.

And to today, 100 years later, there are nurses Just health care employees who cannot bill for his or her services.

Q: How do you and the committee plan to alter the best way nurses are paid?

We have developed seven different model-based models for other health care providers who currently have billing structures within the United States in addition to in Belgium.

Belgium was the primary country to free nurses from room rates and located that not only did access to care improve, but patient outcomes also improved because they were now capable of pay nursing staff. We organize meetings with organizations equivalent to Senate HELP (Health, Education, Work and Pensions) Committeestate treasurers and state-level Health and Human Services offices to allow them to know the way nurses are considered a part of the price.

We were surprised to listen to that the overwhelming majority of our elected officials charged with directing health care had no concept that there may be currently no mechanism for reimbursement for nursing care in our health care system.
