In July 2019 Phi Mu The (All-English) Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International (Sigma) held its annual conference at Oxford Brookes University, topic; “Nursing: a profession without borders.” This conference shed vivid light on the numerous contribution that nurses make to the delivery of secure and effective care, and particularly recognized the unique contribution that nurses make to the availability of secure and effective care public health and in reducing the consequences of health inequalities; no more visible than the recent call by the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom, to make sure that we spend money on stronger nursing staff.
In 2020 we rejoice Year of the Nurse and Midwife
“a first-in-a-generation opportunity to place nurses and midwives at the center of national and global health policy and celebrate all that the nursing profession does to improve health around the world.”
This 12 months not only marks a brand new decade, but additionally recognizes the outstanding contribution that nurses and midwives make global nursing and global healthcare.
The UK All-Party Parliamentary Group contributed to this vital milestone within the history of nursing, Triple Impact Reportwhich set the stage for “Nurture Now” campaign.. As a collaborating partner, WHO has stated that the last word goal of this campaign “is to improve health around the world by raising the status and profile of nursing, showing what more can be achieved by strengthening the nursing profession, and enabling nurses to maximize their contribution to achieving universal health coverage.”
Running a campaign to make sure quality nurse leaders include: Nightingale Challengewhich goals to enable nurses to steer and excel of their skilled, often paternal and oppressed roles, and to take motion to remove significant gender barriers that also exist.
It can be recognized that nurses can play a task: significant role in supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals. By optimizing your role nurses and midwives can contribute to achieving universal health for all.
In the UK, the importance of ensuring that medical staff are adequately prepared has been highlighted in quite a lot of reports, including: Healthcare employees in England, Nursing staff and long awaited, The NHS Long Term Plan. The next report shows that we’re at a level of approx critical moment especially when the consequences of nurse shortages develop into severe.
However, this requires rather more than simply reporting; it requires a holistic approachwhich goals to encourage cooperation and co-production with a wider audience, including those we function nurses and midwives; and which goals to interrupt the boundaries of the usually seemingly insurmountable challenges it faces.
Therefore, along with the geographical interpretation of the concept of “nursing without borders”, Triple Impact Report reminds us that as nurses we do nursing in our communities; we serve our communities; our wages bring income to the family home and emancipate women. As we approach the Year of the Nurse and Midwife, it might be an excellent time to think about co-production more often as an answer to many problems.
As health and care challenges develop into more complex, they often arise from: social as a substitute clinical origins, is not it time for those with experience to interact with nurses and midwives to search out latest solutions to among the ‘wicked’ problems identified?
Moving towards a social model of health, evidenced by widespread adoption social prescriptionsthis can be a positive sign, although often the facility still lies within the hands of execs. Year of the Nurse and Midwife in 2020 it’s an amazing opportunity to rejoice not only the good things we do, but additionally to acknowledge and have interaction the resources and strengths of our patients, caregivers, people and communities – our most natural allies.
Poll after poll tells us that nurses are essentially the most quite a few trusted occupation. If residents join forces with nurses and midwives to unravel the issues around them staffing concernspoor pay, underestimation of our skills, safety considerations and more, then our voice will develop into stronger. If we share the Nightingale Competition with residents whose children are our future nursing leaders, will it strengthen our campaign?
For centuries, people have been called to nursing. The feeling that you have got made a difference in someone’s life is actually some of the powerful feelings you may have. However, in comparison with other professions, nurses are modest in sharing their achievements. We keep people healthy vaccination campaignS; we’re developing our role to enable people to live at home, through use home ventilation systems for instance, as occupational health specialists, we support employees and employers in achieving a full and productive workforce deal with the dying and we achieve this rather more.
2020 have to be the 12 months we as nurses raise a mighty roar about our achievements and capabilities; while aligning them with the strengths of our communities and ultimately encouraging all residents to root for us.
